OCEF Needs your help!

The Oldham County Educational Foundation needs your help, but it won’t cost you anything!

On Saturday, May 11th between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, OCEF, with the support of the Ford Motor Company, will have a test drive event in the parking lot of Oldham County High School. Ford Motor Company will donate $20 for each individual who takes a 2 minute test drive, up to a total donation of $6,000 for the day. This is a “fund raiser” to support additional funds for students and teachers, not a sales event. You will not be approached by a sales person. Take a look at this promotional flyer and then go to the OCEF website at http://ocef.info and register for your test drive. Your support of this event will mean additional instructional resources for our students and teachers.

Guest educator shares parenting tools at Kindergarten Night

Bellarmine University Professor of Early Childhood/Special Education, Kathleen Cooter, PhD, who has been a consultant to La Grange Elementary over the last couple of years, spoke to Kindergarten parents at last night’s Kindergarten night.

Dr. Cooter asked parents to remember these important parenting tools:

  1. Giving your full attention, TALK to your child, to encourage two-way conversations.
  2. Use high-powered, “big, fat, juicy” vocabulary and talk in complete sentences.
  3. Give FIVE compliments for every negative statement you make.
  4. Be the “Prophet” in your child’s life with positive messages and encouragement about their future.  They are soaking up your every word.  Mom’s words speak volumes!
  5. And continue academic work even over the summer to feed your child’s hunger to learn.  They thrive with challenging accomplishments.
